scrappy trip finished

I was glad to have this one to finish up over the last couple of days; we are all sick with something suspiciously flu-like and I haven't wanted to get off the couch, so finishing up the binding was perfect (I've been pretty bad about responding to comments for the past few days, I'm sorry!).

I first started to see these quilt blocks pop up on Instagram while I was visiting my family for Christmas.  At first I wasn't interested, but by the time I got home I couldn't wait to get started.  I have really loved working on this quilt and definitely think that I will make another one at some point.  Most of the fabrics are from my scrap bin, but since I made this with my nephew in mind I tried to leave out anything pink, purple, or flowery.  Considering that at least half of the fabrics in my stash fall into one of those categories, I had to venture a little bit outside of the scrap bin.

This one is going to be a little difficult for me to give away.  It is a great couch size (60x72) and I have grown very attached to it.

For the backing I used this Chicopee plaid print.

I had a hard time choosing a fabric for the binding, but I decided to go for another Chicopee print.  I was really proud of myself for using up a fabric that was in my stash, but now that I am finished with the quilt I am a little concerned that that print is all gone now and I might need to order some more!

This is the first scrap quilt I have made and it is making me very excited to get started on my Maple Leaf Rag Quilt from Material Obsession II.

I love it Erica! IF I were to make one of these someday I'd definitely go with the zigzag layout too.

This is gorgeous, I can understand why you would find it hard to give away, you should at least cuddle up on the couch with it once before you send it off.

beautiful finish! I'm working on two of them, they're so addicting! I totally know what you mean about using up a print in your stash and then feeling anxiety over not having it anymore, I did that with several of my DS prints. Hope you're all feeling better soon!

Congrats on a great finish! Hope you get to 'pet' it for a little while before it goes to its new owner :)

Ooh, Erica, I love the layout on yours! Congrats on using fabric from your stash too! I'm always worried I'll "need" something later if I use it. :)

The layout you chose really takes this over and above the average Trip Around the World - it's really fabulous!
